Songkran Festival 2009 raises funds for Somerset Hospital.
On the 19th April, Wangthai Restaurants decided to donate a percentage of their turnover for the day to Somerset Hospital Fund. Seen here is the Marketing Assistant Heidi Rother from Simply Asia handing over the cheque for R14 800.25 to Trevor Pols, Fundraising Manager for Somerset Hospital.
The donation will be used to purchase a flow infusion pump which is used to inject exact amounts of medication at regular intervals. The Trauma Unit is the heart of the hospital. It is here that a patient will be assessed and depending on the severity of their illness and trauma, how they will be treated. The trauma unit is currently a 7 bed unit, with government funding this is to be increased to a 22 bed unit which will consist of a 4 bed Paediatric resuscitation unit, a 4 bed adult resuscitation unit and a 14 bed trauma unit. The new emergency unit is to have a central monitoring station and will be of international standards benefiting both the local community and travellers to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
We have extremely dedicated doctors and staff who are doing incredible work with what they have and with the partnerships of the private sector will be able to offer excellent medical services and provide equal health care for all. The donation will go towards the purchasing of equipment for the unit. |
