Start a fresh year in April by celebrating Songkran - A Thai New Year celebration
Cape Town: 7th April 2008: Songkran, also commonly known as “The Water Festival”, is the traditional Thai New Year that is celebrated from 13th – 15th April. This is by far the most significant and devout event on the Thai calendar. Last year’s Songkran celebrity auction event saw Wang Thai raise an impressive R90 000 in support of Women in Leadership, an organisation that supports, councils and integrates abused women in Elsies River back into society.
This year they have given their support to the iThemba Pre-Primary Schoold in Philippi. Wang Thai in conjunction with Grand West Casino CSI have partnered to host a culinary extravaganza and fundraising auction. Invited guests include top businesspersons, celebrities and the media of Cape Town.
This years event will be hosted at the exclusive Wang Thai Grand West Casino Restaurant. The menu has been prepared by masterful head-chefs specifically for the evening. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on some enticing articles such as a trip for two, with airfare provided by Lufthansa Global Telesales, to Milky Bay in Thailand valued at R30 000, a weekend for two at the Table Bay Hotel, a custom artwork by Magdalene Beata Wysoczanska, two months free membership at Dragon Power gym with a kit bag valued at a total of R5 000, three Paul Cluver gift packs comprised of a Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet, two cases of wine from Ken Forrester Wines, 2 nights at Perry Bridge Hollow Hotel in Hazy View, with an elephant experience, valued at R10 000, four Craig Jacob designer handbags using recycled billboards valued R850 each, a dinner for ten guests at Wang Thai Grand West valued at R2 000 and a Hip Hop ballgown valued at R4 500.
The event will be hosted by Tanya Nefdt and the proceeds will be accepted by Birgit Thümecke, co-founder of the iThemba Pre-Primary School Philippi, for the expansion of the school that provides a safe haven for toddlers between the ages of three and six from within the community.
Says Chai Lekcharoensuk, MD of Cape Thai Restaurant Holdings “This year our aim is to raise R120 000 to ensure that the school can continue to serve one daily meal to the children – which in most cases is their only staple meal of the day; as well as equip them with the furniture and stationary they need to be fully functional.
Seats are limited at a cost of R350.00 so kindly get in contact with the organisers on the details listed below by 7th April 2008.
